Roldán Rodríguez Iglesias is a professional race car driver, born in November the 9th 1984 in Valladolid, Spain.

A sport’s fanatic from an early age, he takes place in various regional championships of several sports while in school, but it was in gymnastics where he exceled for few years.

At the age of 12, Roldán, had his first contact with the world of motor sports at the Mijas Circuit (Malaga); like the majority of all professional race car drivers, he starts his career in Go Karting.

He starts racing in 1997 but it was in 1999 when he takes it a step further and competes in the Spanish Championship of Karting and in the Toyota Spanish Open of Karting obtaining a 4th place and the 2nd place respectively; in the meantime, he won all the races he took place in the Castilla y Leon Championship (north of Spain where Roldán is originally from).

2000 is the year when Roldan goes international. He competes in diverse races in the Italian Open Championships of Karting as well as in the European Championship that took place in Argenville (France), achieving an 8th place. Locally, he ends up being 3rd in the Spanish Karting Championships with the Pole Position and the fastest lap in both races.

2001 in his last year in Go Karting for Roldán, he steps up to Formula A category achieving a 5th and an 8th place in Italy (Trofeo de la Industria and Trofeo Andrea Margutti, both of great international prestige). In Spain, he gets to the 2nd place in the Spanish Championships.

He always remembers the first time he steps into a “big circuit”, it was at Circuito del Jarama (Madrid), together with his friend Maria de Villota who was driving the car that day; this was back in 2002. That same year Roldán made his debut in the Formula Junior Spanish Championships by Renault with 6 wins, 7 fastest laps and ending up 3rd in the Championship.

The next year he repeats Championship looking for the win but he finally achived the same 3rd place.

The next 3 years (2004-2006) were a great learning period for Roldán. During that time, he competes in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship (obtaining the 2nd place) and in the Trofeo Iberico (winning the Championship); he gets to know Mr. Giancarlo Minardi and he drives the Formula 1 Minardi in Vallelunga, Rome in 2005. During that period Roldán also drives in the amazing Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in south East Asia. Also he drives various races in the Formula 3000 Euroseries Championship obtaining 2 Pole Position and one win in 4 races completed. By the end of that period he does an official GP2 Series offical test in Cheste, (Valencia), achieving the 5th place.

It’s in 2007 when competes in the GP2 series Championship, the step that leads to Formula 1, with the Minardi-Piquet Team. It was a very difficult yet educational year for Roldán as he was driving in many circuits he did not know. He got only one Podium in Hugaroring and a fastest lap, but his speed and performance gave him the opportunity to knock on the Formula 1 doors, with the Force India Formula One Team. At the end of that same year, he became part of the team as test driver. He drove the Formula One in Silverstone couple of times, Jerez and Montmeló.

In 2008 Roldan competes in both GP2 Series and the Formula 3000 Euroseries. In GP2 he made a Podium in Monza, but the results in overall were not as expected. However, in Formula 3000 he took part in 4 races, winning 2 and making 2 Podiums.

2009 was again a very good year for Roldán. He did a very good season in GP2 Series with 2 Podiums and made victories, podiums and good races which led him to be 3rd in the GP2 Asian series.

That 2009 was Roldán’s last year as he had to interrupt his career due to personal circumstances.

This 2016 Roldán compete with BMW Team Teo Martin in the GT Open. For the meetings of Estoril, Spa Francorchamps and Paul Ricard. Winning in Spa Francorchamps and Paul Ricard.
